The reason I like Yun Gen Yang is first and foremost because he is a nice person. And for me that is REALLY IMPORTANT!!  He has a wonderful manner about him and is always so polite. Yun hails from New York and is one photographer who really features his city imaginatively in his photos. Now let me tell you……this blog post was the hardest I have done to date. Why? Because Yun has a plethora of great imagery to choose from. I had to put my editing hat on because when I look at his work I am like a kid in a candy store going ooooh….this one! this one!…..no wait…this one this one….no wait…..

Yun is one photographer who I think is constantly pushing himself further to see what he can imagine…..what new images he can create out of what we often think of as non-photoworthy. I also think Yun is technically the man, some of his images never fail to evoke a response in me – often a verbal exclamation – and his real weddings make me feel like I am literally experiencing the whole day as a guest – which is quite a rare achievement. Yun has a great sense of humour and it really comes through in lots of his work, he also uses angles alot too which I always find inspiring. Most of all I like how Yun’s personality shines through his photos.

I love how he gets up close and personal….and the people he photographs look so natural. He brings out their intimacy in an unpretentious way and captures some lovely range of expressions of humanity’s emotions. He is also one photographer who predominantly shoots in natural light and colour. I love this about him. He uses Photoshop minimally (which I think is to his credit as his photos stand alone in terms of light and colour) and he fills his pictures with exuberant colour which literally explodes before your eyes. He fills his frame dynamically and naturally – with always something for the eye to wander over.

He also mananges to capture the night light exceedingly well – to record the events of the wedding reception regardless of what demands are placed on him technically. Which is no small feat. I often envision him running about with 5 lights, a bounce board and a generator but I think in reality he has a much more low-key approach. The biggest reason I love Yun’s work is because when I look at it I feel happy. And for me that’s all the inspiration I need………….you can literally see for yourself below why I think he is pretty special!

Yun is right up there with Sergio Lopez when it comes to the shoe shot. Yun also takes the prize for some of the funniest and heartwarming images around………one thing that is great about Yun is that he is not afraid to show brides and grooms in unflattering moments. This makes for such a great set of photos. I am glad there is a wedding photographer that is that brave because it makes for hilarous images and I am sure there are many couples that Yun has photographed who have these framed on their wall.

Yun also takes awesome locational shots………which makes you want to go there…..like, right now!

and my favourite set of bride and groom portraits to date…..check these stunning little numbers out ………

Just to remind you this post was very difficult to choose and I thought I restrained myself quite well….. Believe me when I tell you I could have gone on and on for hours with more fabulous images……and to finish off –  a lovely piece of intimacy…

Many Thanks: Yun Gen Yang www.yangphoto.com
